Description

I almost forgot this one! I did it between two previous paintings and somehow never got to post it. Perhaps I wasn't satisfied with it. But it's not too bad either. Looks much nicer in reality, as painting often are impossible to photograph.

It's a spaceship, passing Europa, the sixth moon of Jupiter. The ship's design is very much inspired by the hood ornament of 1955 Pontiac Star Chief.

Acrylics on 57x41cm canvas.

Now, that's a stable spacecraft design. :) It reminds me a bit of the Cosmostrator from the film adaption of Stanislaw Lem's book The Astronauts, but this spacecraft is more torpedo shaped, not as pointy. [link] I don't see any rocket engines- is this ship using some other variety of drive, like a spindizzy, reactionless "field drive", warp nacelles, neutrino rocket, etc. or am I missing a rocket engine in it's tail or nacelles? Generally speaking, rocket ships are wholly incapable of rapid interstellar flight, so if this is a starship of some sort, I would expect it too have some means of propulsion that does not involve ejecting reaction mass. I wish I could see this painting in person, as photographs don't always do paintings justice...
